The Laszlo Mail team has contributed a rich text editor component to OpenLaszlo. There is a detailed spec which tells about the features and how to use it. You can find it in the latest nightly build or browse in subversion if you just want to take a peek at the lzx.

Please give it a whirl and let us know what you think! If you find bugs, please file them in jira. Feel free to contribute bug fixes and improvement as well!
